Comment on CSP; CAHNRS expands undergrad grant program

Washington Ag Today September 16, 2009 Not only is the sign up underway for the new Conservation Stewardship Program, CSP, but you can still comment on the program’s interim rule. Diane Gelburd, Regional Conservationist for the Natural Resources Conservation Service, encourages people to do so.

Gelburd: “The rule is an interim final rule so if people have some ideas about the program, they do have the opportunity to comment on it and send suggestions by September 28. And the interim final rule is available on our website so if they think that we should be doing something to have a better program I encourage people to take a look at that too.”

Meanwhile, the first cutoff date for ranking for funding for the CSP is September 30th.

At the request of students and faculty both, the Washington State University College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences is expanding its undergraduate research grant program for the 2009-10 academic year. Forty different undergraduate research projects will be awarded $1,000 grants. Last year 33 grants were funded.

Professor Kim Kidwell, associate dean for academic programs in CAHNRS, says hands-on learning is a hallmark of the college and conducting real research under the mentorship of a CAHNRS faculty member enriches the educational experience for each undergraduate involved. She says past

projects have covered a wide variety of topic areas and have highlighted the talent of both students and faculty in the college.
