New Favorite: Sparkling Syrah

New Favorite: Sparkling Syrah

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran. As many of you have learned my new favorite wine is usually the one that is in my glass at the time. Recently at a wine tasting and education program I was introduced to an unusual sparkling wine and I want to share before it is all gone!

All year long I enjoy Champagne and sparkling wines, so I am always looking for something new. A week or so ago I was attending a wine tasting which featured a winery from north of my home near Leavenworth Washington.  Upon arrival the winemaker poured us a glass of sparkling wine. It was a sparkling wine made from Syrah. I had only had sparkling Shiraz from Australia and have always been a fan. But this particular wine hales from Icicle Ridge Winery in Pashastin Washington. I was dazzled by it. It is rich with fruit and the bubbles are respectably small – a good sign in sparkling wine – and the deep red color was enchanting. It is a great wine for foods off the grill. The slightly charred characteristic from the food makes it work very well with the wine. We had lamb and it was fabulous! I have to admit it is a bit spendy even for me at $95.00 a bottle, but considering only 100 cases of the nectar were produced, I say it is not going to be around for very long.  I plan to visit the winery this fall and I will update you on the rest of the wines then!  Have a great weekend and thanks for joining us on today’s Vine to Wine.
