New from Maryhill
New from Maryhill. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.
Maryhill Winery has just been awarded a couple of honors in the press and along with just bringing on a new wine maker they are getting ready for a new release according to founder Craig Leuthold.
LEUTHOLD: They’re actually just new vintages of existing wines. We’ve got our 2008 Rose and Pinot Gris and our 2006 Syrah and several others and they’re just follow-ups from our previous vintages.
I am not a wine connoisseur but I do know what I like and sometimes it is interesting to taste different vintages of the same wine.
LEUTHOLD: While every vintage is a little bit different and it has its own nuances, that is the funnest part about wine is that while you want some consistency you’re delivered a product that Mother Nature made and you can do your best to grow it the same every year.
Maryhill recently added a new winemaker, Richard Batchelor and Leuthold says they are very excited.
LEUTHOLD: Richard has just been a good fit from day one. Aside from the fact that he has worked at some very prestigious wineries and actually, recently got 4 wine written up by Wine Spectator, two 96’s, a 95 and a 93. And to put that into perspective in the 10 years that we’ve been in business the highest rated wine we’ve ever had from the Spectator is a 90. It really shows us that he has the talent to make really super high quality wine.
