Maryhill Winery Recognition

Maryhill Winery Recognition. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

Recently Maryhill Winery has received a couple of major distinctions in the press. Craig Leuthold, founder of Maryhill Winery says they are excited about being named the “2009 Washington Winery of the Year” by Wine Press Northwest.

LEUTHOLD: We are really pleased to have received this award and it’s kind of really mind-boggling to think they would have chosen us out of 600 wineries to be the Washington Winery of the Year and obviously we’ve made a lot of good wines over the years but so have a lot of other wineries. There’s a tremendous amount of really fabulous wine being produced in this state.

At the same time Leuthold says they received “Best Destination Winery” by Seattle Magazine.

LEUTHOLD: And then with Seattle Magazine that was really a surprise for us. We just found out that they had chosen us as the Best Destination Winery and we know we’ve got so much to offer people. We’ve been doing live music every weekend all summer long, almost since our inception and I think that’s one of the things that really differentiates so much. We invite people to come and then we ask them to stay through giving them lots of different reasons.

Maryhill Winery is the 10th largest winery in the state and sits overlooking the Columbia River Gorge. Tomorrow Craig Leuthold talks about new wine releases and their new winemaker.

That’s today’s Fruit Grower Report. I’m Greg Martin on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
