Wheat Grower Legislative Tour coming up this month
Washington Ag Today June 1, 2009 Walla Walla County Wheat Growers are hosting this year’s Washington Association of Wheat Growers Legislative Tour. The event held every two years is scheduled for June 24th and 25th. WAWG president Brit Ausman highlights what state lawmakers, legislative staff and state agency personnel will see. Ausman: “We are going to take legislative people to see Hofer Dam down by Touchet. Tour Ice Harbor Dam and get the feeling of how Ice Harbor works. We are going to turn Northwest Grain Growers facility at Wallula. We are going to have a nice dinner at Walla Walla Community College and tour their facility. There hopefully will be a demonstration of a sprayer so the legislative people on the west side can get an idea of how a sprayer works and how much chemical is applied over farm ground. Should be a great tour.” Ausman urges growers in the area to catch up with the tour when they can and interact with lawmakers and other participating in the event. A field day for owners of privately held forest and range lands in eastern Washington and northern Idaho is scheduled June 20th at the K Diamond K Ranch three miles south of Republic on state Highway 21. Over 25 topics will be covered including presentations on forest and rangeland health, wildlife habitat enhancement and wildfire risk reduction. Agendas and registration information is available at WSU Extension offices. I’m Bob Hoff and that’s Washington Ag Today on the Northwest Ag Information Network. ?
