Video conference a first for wheat industry; Vision document for Oregon wheat
Farm and Ranch June 1, 2009 During its May meeting in Spokane the Washington Wheat Commission conducted a video conference with U.S. Wheat Associates in Washington D.C. It’s believed to be the first video conference conducted by the U.S. wheat industry. The Washington Wheat Commission purchased its own building earlier this year and equipped it with video conference capability. Commission chairman Hal Johnson sees great potential for this resource. Johnson: “Our first video conference with Alan Tracy of U.S. Wheat created a lot of excitement. The potential for visiting with a lot of people in a lot of places that we typically don‘t. I think it will make our meetings even better because we will able to see people and be able to ask them questions. So it was really nice to see that technology being put to work and I hope we use it more and more in the future.” The Wheat Commission has the capability of having four different locations on a video conference simultaneously. The Oregon Wheat Growers League and Oregon Wheat Commission are inviting the state’s growers to attend a session June 8th in Pendleton to discuss the “Vision and Next Steps for the Industry” document. Producers are asked to RSVP their attendance for the luncheon that begins at 11:45 a.m. at the Pendleton Red Lion. You can RSVP to the League’s office at 541-276-7330. The Oregon Wheat Growers League Committees will meet directly following the lunch. I’m Bob Hoff and that’s the Northwest Farm and Ranch Report on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
