New Age Farming 1
The Sun Valley Center for the Arts recently invited four regional farmers to gather in Ketchum to discuss how they farm, the challenges they face, the hopes they have for sustainable farming and how choices at the grocery store affect these issues.? Britt Udesen of the Sun Valley Center says that "Every time we go to the supermarket or the farmers market we make choices not only about what we want to eat but about how we want our food to be produced.” The discussion has been titled "Farming in the 21st Century."? Udesen has a very practical explanation for why a Center for the Arts is hosting a farming conference. “All of us are affected by contemporary farming practices and are really curious about it. In our community, more and more people are getting interested in farming. There isn’t much farming in Blaine County now but there are more and more people coming back to it. But there are organizations like Communities Rising and Idaho’s Bounty where they are helping us connect as consumers to farmers. We want to explore some of the ways farming has changed in the last 50 years and some of the ways in which our decisions are affecting what farmers are doing. We’ve invited 5 farmers from 4 different farms to come together and really talk with us about how farming has changed in their lifetime and offer an opportunity for the community to ask questions.”
