E-U Beef Thaw

E-U Beef Thaw

This broadcast has quoted many local beef experts such as University of Idaho Extension Specialist Jason Ahola who is a researcher on beef cattle and Rick Stott a Vice President at Agribeef on the subject of hormones and beef. They have all said that hormones employed by beef producers are not harmful in human consumption and there’s a lot of science to back these contentions up. That said, our methods for raising beef have caused problems for years with Europeans and been the source of trade blockades. The EU’s stance on hormones hasn’t changed but we’re starting to come to terms. There is now an agreement will allow the U.S. to export to the E-U an additional 20,000 metric tons of non-hormone treated beef at zero duty. After three years, it will allow an extra 25,000 metric tons, for a total of 45,000 metric tons at zero duty.

National Cattlemens Beef Association chief economist Gregg Doud about the new agreement. “What this agreement vdoes is change the terms of the payment plan. It says let’s shift this from tariff fund goods as export to the U.S. to duty free market access.
