Local Farmers-Local Consumers

Local Farmers-Local Consumers

There appears to be a rising tide in Idaho that uses an age-old concept. Local farmer raises livestock, vegetables, fruits…you name the food. Then, local farmer brings that food to market. But the market isn’t China or  Istanbul…or even Boston. The market is right down the road…as in farm to market. Now I know our economy is set up on a global basis, but there is a strong group in Boise called Capital City Public Market and their message is that they are an on-going, centrally located gathering place where local farmers and producers can sell their products to community residents and visitors. The Market upholds the age-old tradition of allowing the consumer to meet the producer while encouraging the production and consumption of agricultural products. Bill Ward from Granny’s Farm. “Myself and my wife Connie have been participating in farmer’s markets for 15 years. We grow herbs and mostly fresh green lettuce and other varied products, a lot of heirloom tomatoes.”

Linda Durbin from Durbin’s Back Acres.  “We have a passion for growing herbs and vegetables. We grow them the natural way and we got into this because my husband and I just want to better people’s opinions about small farmers besides wanting to have a value of better grown foods and locally grown foods.”
