Fruit Qualiy School

Fruit Quality School. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

Growers and packers may want to mark May 19th on your calendar.

KUPFERMAN: Washington State University in conjunction with a number of other federal and state information and  research organizations are pleased to present another edition of the Washington State University Fruit Quality School in Ellensberg, WA.

That’s Gene Kupferman, Extension Horticulturist with WSU who says there will be some good information for everyone attending.

KUPFERMAN: These issues are cropping up from year to year but progress is being made in research so that it is important to get this progress report out to the industry.

There is a full day of speakers on a number of topics. Kupferman says it is important for consumers to know that there is a lot of research that goes into the products they see in the supermarket.

KUPFERMAN: The growers certainly know how hard it is to get the fruit to consumers on a year round basis and so the growers in Washington and in Oregon have created a commission to fund the research because as federal government money traditionally has declined, the growers have stepped up to the plate to fund it.

Cost of the Fruit Quality School is $75. For information on registration, visit the WSU Tree Fruit Research Commission’s website.

That’s today’s Fruit Grower Report. I’m Greg Martin on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
