Potato State Gets Potato Award

Potato State Gets Potato Award

Frank Muir, Executive Director of the Idaho Potato Commission has a great story about a celebrity event in South Beach…Florida. One and the same South Beach famous for its diet. In this case however, there was nothing low-cal to discuss. This was a Burger Bash featuring Idaho potatoes.

(Muir) “We just got back from an event down in South Beach, FL where the Idaho potato was starring with Food Network. We participated in what’s known as the Annual South Beach Wine and Food Festival that takes place in South Beach, Miami and it’s hosted by the Food Network. What kicks off this whole event is called Burger Bash where chefs from around the world compete to find out who can create the best burger in America. This year for the first time ever, Food Network invited Idaho potatoes to sponsor a side dish contest that would go right in hand with the burger bash contest. We had 10 well known chefs compete in this event. We had a great turnout. We were able to award a chef from Chicago, Carol Wallach, Executive Chef for Solis, for a very creative French fry dish that she had made, and everybody loved it. We had Rachel Raye of Food Network fame right there on hand to help hand the over sized check to her and the celebrity judge we had helping us judge this year was Art Ginsburg, otherwise known as Mr. Food, himself.”
