More unpermitted dam inspections; spring crop insurance base prices

Washington Ag Today March 9, 2009 The Department of Ecology says it is beginning another round inspections on unpermitted dams and reservoirs. This follows inspections completed in December on 95 dams built across the state after which Ecology ordered immediate repairs to 11 of the dams at risk of failing and flooding downstream. Owners of 141 dams and reservoirs are being notified by mail about the next round of inspections which include frost control ponds used in farming and dairy waste lagoons. USDA’s Risk Management Agency recently announced base prices for revenue type crop insurance for spring crops. Barley Revenue Assurance was expanded into Washington this year and the base price for feed barley is $2.65 a bushel with Income Protection spring barley at $3.32 a bushel. Both Crop Revenue Coverage and Group Risk Protection corn have a base price of $4.04 a bushel. Meanwhile, RMA’s Jo Lynne Seufer reminds producers that March 16th is the sales closing date on spring crops including new Adjusted Gross Revenue Lite policies. Seufer: “This is if they never had one before or didn‘t have one in the prior crop year. Again, March 16th is the deadline. Chick pea producers are also reminded that to insure their crop chickpeas are now covered under the Dry Pea policy not the Dry Bean policy.
