Federal crop insurance disaster aid link

Washington Ag February 24, 2009 USDA’s Risk Management Agency reminds producers of the important link between Federal crop insurance and Farm Service Agency Disaster Assistance programs for the 2009 crop year. Jo Lynne Seufer with RMA’s regional office in Spokane said that linkage issue came up frequently at some recent meetings she attended in the region. Seufer: “Producers who do want to still comply with Farm Service Agency disaster programs, or any programs maybe that USDA would administer, particularly the SURE program, the linkage in insurance coverage is there so producers either need to get NAP or buy Multi-Peril Crop Insurance. And if somebody thinks they have missed their date, lets take apples for example with a sales closing date that was November 20th, they could still maybe get that linkage coverage by purchasing an Adjusted Gross Revenue-Lite policy if they have never had one before. So there is a little bit of coverage there still here at the end of buying season for crop insurance, but again March 16th is that deadline for NAP as well for Farm Service Agency. Seufer mentioned March 16th. That is the sales closing date for 2009 Crop Year spring Multi-Peril Crop Insurance. Seufer: “This is the last day they either need to find new insurance policies or confirm their carryover policies from previous years. I’m Bob Hoff and that’s Washington Ag Today on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
