The Economy & Wine

The Economy & Wine

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran. What a whirlwind it has been the past year, gasoline at outrageous prices, stock market insanity, companies gone crazy with greed, foreclosures and bankruptcy, should we be worried about the wine industry? Is there a chance we might lose our favorites?
I am not clairvoyant by any means, so for me to attempt to predict where this economic craziness is going, would in itself be crazy. What I will say though, is that it does not appear as though people have stopped drinking wine. They may not be drinking forty or fifty dollar bottles quite as often as they were a year and a half ago, but they are still drinking wine. Apparently history shows the sales of wine and spirits stays fairly stable during time of economic recession. That’s encouraging. But let’s take a look at some of the other reason to visit wineries. There have been some wonderful business extensions at some of our local wineries. Many of them now have entertainment on the weekends and offer interesting selections of food. Others are offering extended hours for tasting on the weekends. If you enjoy art many tasting rooms feature a rotating art exhibit in the tasting room. The gift shops at many wineries are perfect for shopping for a gift you would not find just anywhere. Expand your reasons for visiting wineries and make sure you support your favorites! Remember to send your wine questions to linda at vine to wine dot net and thank you for joining me on today’s Vine to Wine.
