A Noisy Messy Pest

A Noisy Messy Pest

It seemed like a good idea to them at first, but our next door neighbor girls soon discovered that feeding wild geese can turn into a nightmare. You begin with only a couple, who in turn quickly tell their fellow geese, who tell their fellow geese…..and you get the picture! Before you know it your property is covered with noisy, messy and downright belligerent hungry Canada geese! These geese can pose problems for not only homeowners but any farmers or growers in the surrounding area as well. As Canada geese travel upwards of fifteen miles or more from roosting sites in order to feed, they quickly become a nuisance in an even broader capacity. Several areas have bans in place on the use of certain pesticide application during specific times of the year due to the migratory habits of these birds, and while growers are the most affected by the bans, these pesticides are also sold for domestic use. Infraction fines can be upwards of $10,000, but determining the exact origin of an offense is difficult to say the least. Canada geese go home!
