Washington Ag January 9, 2009 Washington State University is reminding people that it has a variety of information available to help those caught in current flooding or potential power outages recover from the situation.
Information on rescuing and caring for surviving livestock, links to a variety of disaster recovery Web sites, and information on the potential for spontaneous combustion of damp hay after the floodwaters have subsided can be found at: http://cahnrsnews.wsu.edu/flood/ Additional information specific to each county, especially for agricultural producers, is available by contacting local WSU county extension offices.
If you said you were an irrigator on the last Census of Agriculture you may soon be getting a survey in the mail.
House: "The Farm and Ranch Irrigation Survey is going to be mailed out to 35-thousand producers nationwide on January 12th."
That's National Agricultural Statistics Service deputy administrator Carol House.
House: "This survey talks about irrigation. It talks about the use of water for irrigation. It talks about conservation practices on the use of that water and also how much it costs producers to irrigate crops."
House says recipients are required to complete and return their forms to NASS by February 17th.
