Farm and Ranch January 9, 2009 Attendees can receive four Washington State Department of Agriculture pesticide credits by attending the All-Day Spanish Language Program at this year's Washington State Potato Conference.
Tim Waters of Washington State University Extension explains this year's program put on by the Washington State Department of Agriculture's Farmworker Education Program.
Waters: "Hands on Pesticide Handler Training is the name of the course. And the course is geared towards Spanish speaking farm workers who work on the potato crop. And specifically with those who mix, load and apply pesticides. The training has four different modules the attendees will rotate through. The first module works with general aspects of tractor and potato digger safety. The second module covers safe practices involved with chemigation. And then the third module works with hands on training with the use of personal protective equipment. Then the fourth module works specifically with respirators and how to don a respirator properly."
The All-Day Spanish Program is January 26th beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Three Rivers Convention Center in Kennewick. The five-dollar Conference admission is the only charge for the program and lunch is provided. Pre-registration is required.
