1/9/09 Memorandum of Understanding & NAFTA Fix

Memorandum of Understanding & NAFTA Fix. I'm Greg Martin with today's Northwest Report. In his last days as Agriculture Secretary, Ed Schafer expands the Department's decades old partnership with the Student Conservation Association. Schafer talks about a memorandum of understanding to expand the Association. SCHAFER: With this agreement, thousands of NRCS offices and conservation projects around the country will become potential sites for the SCA internships. We'll also sign an overall memorandum of understanding that provides a strong framework for USDA's and SCA's continuing commitment to conservation. The Obama Administration wants to fix the North American free Trade Agreement. The Obama administration believes that NAFTA was oversold to the American People. Administration officials are expected to work with leaders from both Canada and Mexico to make the agreement work better for American workers. At the same time, the Obama administration is standing against the Central American Free Trade Agreement because of poor worker conditions in those Central America countries. The administration will use trade agreements to spread labor and environmental standards. But, the administrations main goal is to open foreign markets to support good American jobs. Now here's today's Washington Grange Report. (GRANGE) That's today's Northwest Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
