Washington Ag November 5, 2008 Profitability through Stewardship and Innovation is the theme for the annual convention of the Washington Association of Wheat Growers coming up November 13-15th at the historic Davenport Hotel in Spokane. Scott Yates, Director of Communications for the Washington Grain Alliance, says key convention speakers are covering some timely topics.
Yates: "First of all we have Mike Kruger from the Money Farm and he is going to be talking to growers about their financial situation and what is going on in the market today. Of course when the growers could all sell their wheat for above $10 the economics were not such a big issue, but now that wheat is down in the four-something range I think there is going to be a lot more interest in Mike Kruger's talk."
Given the dry fall Yates says growers are very interested in what the weather is going to be.
Yates: "Art Douglas, the perennial weatherman who has been speaking in Spokane for over 20 years is going to be at the WAWG convention specifically addressing wheat grower issues."
Growers can also attend numerous workshops and two retired public wheat breeders will be honored, Bob Allan and Clarence Peterson.
