10/28/08 A new Washington State NRCS Conservationist

Washington Ag October 28, 2008 The USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service has a new state conservationist in Washington. Public affairs officer Ron Nichols tells who that is. Nichols: "Roylene Rides at the Door has been named to head our agency here in Washington. She is the current state conservationist in Rhode Island and she is going to be heading up all of NRCS's private land conservation activities, including the implementation of a whole lot of conservation provisions in the recently enacted 2008 Farm Bill." Roylene Rides at the Door replaces Gus Hughbanks, who recently accepted a position with NRCS in Washington D.C. Nichols says Roylene is expected to officially take over her duties in Washington state in mid-December but will be here a few weeks before on temporary duty. Nichols: "Just because we have a number of important conservation organization meetings, including the Washington Association of Conservation Districts meeting in early December. So she wants to be here for that." Roylene Rides at the Door was born and raised on her family's ranch on the Blackfeet Nation in Montana. I'm Bob Hoff.
