Washington Ag September 8, 2008 September 30th is the sales closing date on crop insurance for several commodities in the Pacific Northwest. Jo Lynne Seufer with the regional office of USDA's Risk Management Agency runs down the list.
Seufer: "And we got mint with winter coverage. And then our Forage Production for Klamath and Malheur counties in Oregon is September 30th. Another program that is growing in interest is our Forage Alfalfa Seed Pilot Program with a sales closing date of September 30 and our fall planted barley winter coverage. Last year was the first year we had that and it had good success in sales and that September 30th applies to that as well as our wheat here in the Pacific Northwest."
There are some changes in the wheat revenue insurance products and grain growers are advised to schedule some time with their crop insurance agent ahead of that September 30th sales closing date.
There is a new Actual Revenue History Pilot Plan approved for sweet cherries and growers are encouraged to contact their crop insurance agent well ahead of the November 20th sales closing date for that.
