08/19/08 Why Milk?

A new study once again confirms the ages old Mother's mantra of "drink your milk, so you can grow up big and strong." The study also concluded that drinking milk isn't just for the little tikes. The same diet that is rich in dairy products and aides in building strong bones for younger children has also been proven to ensure healthy bones far into adolescence. While there are those who insist that people do not need to drink milk to maintain healthy teeth and bones; study after study refutes their claims. Teens who have had at least two or more servings of dairy products a day from childhood have much healthier bones than their peers who had less than two daily servings of dairy since childhood. So while there will always be those who don't or won't drink milk, the majority of us can be rest assured that by having our glass of cold milk, a dish of yummy yogurt, or that delicious slice of cheddar, we are not only having an enjoyable dining experience, we are also doing something good for ourselves.
