05/06/08 Summer Reading p2

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran. You know the vacation season is upon us and yesterday we began discussing our summer reading lists with wine and food in mind. Yesterday we discussed some basic books for the novice wine drinker so today I want to recommend a few books with a bit more technical aspect that address the specifics of wine tasting. The top book in this category comes from my favorite wine author Jancis Robinson. Her book "How to Taste" is a specific over view and guide to understanding the tasting of wine. The bonus is the way it increases your understanding of wine vocabulary. She even covers the fine art of spitting. Another book I feel does a good job of guiding you through the world of wine on a bit higher level is Jancis Robinson's book Wine Course, it really covers the wine regions of the world in a clear and concise manner. Her writing style is not overly technical and she is good at explaining anything that might be mysterious to the reader. If you enjoy learning about wine in a simple and direct question and answer style consider Kevin Zraly's "Complete Wine Course". It can contribute to interesting dinner conversation. The original has been updated so if you purchase it used you may want to take note of that. A simple little paperback that is great for carrying on a plane is "The Pleasure of Wine" produced by the Learning Annex. I would enjoy hearing about your favorite wine books send the titles to me at Linda at vine to wine dot net and thanks for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
