03/19/08 Hybrid Car Design

Europeans continue to catch attention for their space and energy saving vehicle designs. While over here we're all still rolling around using 130 year old technology and the weekly visit to the local gas station for a fill up requires a loan from the bank down the street. I don't know about you but the new hybrid car the Aptera is looking pretty good to me, even with its space ranger type physique, at a possible 330 miles per gallon, I'll risk looking like a futuristic cartoon. Technically considered a motorcycle because of its three wheel design, the Aptera is the brain child of Steve Fambro and Chris Anthony, independent entrepreneurs out of San Diego, California. Frankly, it's high time we in the US embrace new concepts in car design. Granted, we may have to give up our SUV's that we can pack a family of 8 and all their paraphernalia in, but in the long run wouldn't it be worth the "sacrifice". A lot of you may be shaking your heads no, but perhaps I should wait to ask that question the next time you're slapping a hundred and fifty down and saying, "fill 'er up"!
