Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran and as many of you know, my new favorite wine is usually the wine that is in my glass at the time. However, this week I want to talk about a wine I am looking forward to enjoying in about six years.
During one of my incarnations in the wine industry I was a sales rep who sold Bonny Doon wines from California. I enjoyed these wines and the eccentric charming owner of the winery Randall Graham. So this past weekend at a wine auction it was a treat to see on the auction block a magnum of 2000 Le Cigare Volant from Bonny Doon. This is one of the wineries famed tributes to the wines and grapes the Rhone Region of France. This wine has had a tradition of being blended in the style of the wines of Chateau Neuf du Pape. According to the winery this particular vintage "is scented with licorice, anise and beet root, smoked meat and cool dark earth; it is very satisfyingly savory. - - - This wine is very yin earth, rather than sky, soft rather than hard, waiting versus acting. - - - the 2000 has emerged as a very big and rich, but downright feminine." It is estimated to be age for 15 years and since I have a larger format bottle it will likely last longer. WoW! What a nice something to look forward to when I have my new favorite wine one day in eight or ten years! This is one of the reason I like to lay a wine down and just forget about it for awhile. Go on try it! Remember to send your wine questions to Linda at vine to wine dot net and thanks for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
