Apple Dancing. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.
I often am asked how I can keep coming up with fresh story ideas every day. The easy answer is planning. I try and lay out the stories several days in advance, make contacts for interviews and just work ahead so I have some time to make changes if necessary. Then there are the days when nothing seems to work right. The story idea I had winds up too weak, the phone quality on the interview is bad or for some reason the person cancels, forgets or whatever. It's at that great point when the clock is ticking towards the deadline that I get out my dancing shoes and improvise! Yes, like right now. During my mid morning snack, I grabbed an apple as I usually do. Not only do I write about them, I eat them too. Today there were none of my usual School Boy Gala's in the bin so I grabbed a nice red apple with a Cameo label on it, washed it and took a bite! Wow. I was taken aback by the taste. It almost tasted like one of those special grape flavor infused Grapples only this was an ordinary Cameo apple. The flavor was really intense, sweet and long lasting. You've heard me sing the praises of the Honeycrisp which is also a wonderful tasting apple but I just jumped ship! If you have not had the opportunity of trying some of Washington's signature fruits, get yourself to the grocery store and try them. Sure, they are bit more cost wise but you will absolutely love the flavor. Oh, and they are really good for you too!
