02/25/08 Washing Wine Glasses

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran and on today's program we are going to discuss the washing of your wine glasses. Recently I was in a discussion about teaching a wine seminar and I asked, how the glasses were going to be handled, specifically how were they going to be washed? This was important to me as most institutional glass washers use lots of detergent and rinsing agents. Due to the use of those agents there are times when you are going to want to pay special attention to the way wine glasses are washed. As far as I am concerned we live in a world where far too much fragrance is added to everything. And in this case mostly because detergent scents and rinsing agents can negatively impact the smells and flavors of the wines we are hoping to savor. When you want to do some serious wine tasting - If possible, wash your glasses in very hot water with no harsh detergent and let them air dry. When you put them in the cupboard place them upright not standing on the rim, that way they won't capture any unsavory smells and store them until you drink from them. I know maybe it's not Health Department standards but trust me it is the optimum method of keeping them neutral for your wine tasting enjoyment. Remember to send your wine questions to Linda at vine to wine dot net and thank you for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
