Sometimes we get put in positions we really don't care for. I'm Jeff Keane; I'll be back right after this with a poem about that kind of situation. I think we've all had jobs we would rather not have. I imagine animals have that feeling sometimes also; I know I've ridden horses that didn't want to work certain days and they have real unique ways of expressing that fact. My body and pride usually suffered after they explained themselves. Well, Mom wrote a poem about an animal you all know that would rather have a different position in life. If I Were a Groundhog If I were a groundhog in the fall Would I worry about spring? Not at all, I would stay in the ground in my bed of soil And let ambitious others do all the toil. If I were a groundhog, I would stay Out of the limelight, far, far away. I wouldn't emerge on that February 2nd day And be put up for criticismeither way. If I were a groundhog, I wouldn't be The forecaster of spring expected of me. I wouldn't say, "Well, spring has sprung" Or, "Oh, by golly, winter's just begun." If I were a groundhog, I would be miffed Because that "Shadow" routine is just a myth. I really would emerge and make the scene As the "World's Greatest Lover" on February 14. That's a fun one Mom, but I just can't envision a groundhog as the world's greatest lover, although that famous cartoon skunk, Pepe` La Pew had a great career portraying the supreme lover in all of skunkdom. I'm Jeff Keane.
