Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran and as many of you know, my new favorite wine is very often the wine that is in my glass at the time. I simply don't waste the time and calories on wine that I don't enjoy. On super bowl Sunday we were invited to the home of one of my favorite chefs Big John Caudill. On today's program I want to comment on the wines I discovered there.
Okay so we did not have the usual nachos and guacamole thank goodness because after all it was at Big John's house and the food was the best I have had at any Super Bowl. And of course along with great food was, no not beer, but great wine. As I was tasting wines and chatting about them with my friends I began to notice that most of the Washington wines were really good, and in most all of them the grapes came from Columbia Valley. Even the ones from famous Walla Walla wineries were strutting grapes from the Columbia Valley. Now this wasn't news to me but what I did begin to notice was how well structured the Cabernet Sauvignon was - all the way across the board. There were a few Italian wines of no particular fame but with an obvious Italian character. There was Pinot from Oregon and of course bubbly. But I am going to stick my neck out here and say that nothing was drinking better than those Columbia Valley Cabs. I recommend that you buy a few and treat yourself. It will be well worth it.
