In ten years we might have had a woman president, maybe our rigs will be running on ethanol but one thing is for certain by 2018 most veterinarians will be female. I'm Jeff Keane and I will be back after the break with how the field of veterinary medicine has tipped in favor of women. The American Veterinary Medicine Association called 2007 "The Year of the Women" and for good reason, here's Susan Jeff there are some interesting dynamics going on in the field of veterinary medicine. When last years class of female graduates entered the work force they made history! It was the first time more women than men were practicing veterinarians. Add to this mix the fact that ninety five percent of veterinarians retiring are men and it doesn't take "a man with a size nine hat" to figure out that there is a gender shift in the veterinary profession ( Hey are you trying to say women are smarter) I won't touch that& but considering "girls rule" three to one in vet school we have made great strides. It is also interesting to note that just four years ago 65 percent of vets specializing in equines were male, last year it was only 59 percent. It is kind of amazing to think that back when my mom was in school, in the early forties there was just 21 women veterinarians. Without out a doubt women are blazing new trails in veterinary medicine. I'm Jeff Keane.
