The Find Your 14ers Campaign to help restore habitat and maintain trails in the Colorado's 54 14-thousand foot peaks is about to celebrate it's one year anniversary. One group that has been hard at it for decades says it has a way to go before achieving its goals.

Lloyd Athearn is the Executive Director of the Colorado Fourteener Initiative. He says the National Forest Foundation began the Find Your 14ers Campaign and set an initial target of 5-million dollars to help work performed by the C F I as well as other on the ground organizations.

Athearn says until recently, there were only a few formal trails on any of the peaks so hikers would scramble up wherever they could.

He says the 14ers recent designation as one of the top priorities of the Forest Service is good news but it isn't clear whether that will mean more federal funds so the ongoing campaign is still as important as the day it began.
