Farm and Ranch December 24, 2007 As he was coming to the end of his keynote presentation at the recent Pacific Northwest Grains Conference in Spokane, Kansas State University ag economist Barry Flinchbaugh said he wanted to end on a high note.
Flinchbaugh: "But let's end on a high note. Madame President!"
It seemed the audience wasn't quite sure how to react to Flinchbaugh's obvious reference to the potential of Hillary Clinton being in the White House after the 2008 election. There were several seconds of silence before there were a few chuckles. Should agriculture be worried if that is what happens? Remember upstate New York still has agriculture and Flinchbaugh says his friends on farms there support Hillary.
Flinchbaugh: "New York Farm Bureau endorsed for re-election. I said why? Because she supports us. When we need her help her vote is there. It is her's to lose."
And if Hillary is the winner, Flinchbaugh is not worried about agriculture because of who her advisors on the industry are.
Flinchbaugh: "Her advisor is the most knowledgeable politician I know on the Democratic side when it comes to farm policy, Charlie Stenholm from Texas. Another person she listens to on agriculture is Cal Dooley from California."
Stenholm and Dooley are both former members of Congress where they served on the House Agriculture Committee.
