11/19/07 Swift using Idaho company labels

Swift and Company is going with labels developed by Boise-based PakSense Incorporated to monitor time and temperature on truckloads of fresh beef and pork from eleven North American processing plants to customer locations throughout the US. The three year old Boise company developed the PakSense TXi label which Amy Childress says is about the size of a flat sugar packet that you'd find in a restaurant. CHILDRESS "It has lights on it that will flash if there's been any temperature excursions outside of your specific ranges. Also the label has a memory chip inside of it that is actually recording data and collecting data so you actually download the data that the label has collected during transportation of your product." Labels are pulled at customer locations and sent back to Swift's Colorado office as part of a traceability program. JBS Swift now joins Albertson's in using the PakSense labels which replace the paper strip chart temperature monitoring system. The label's non-volatile memory means data is perpetually stored and can be downloaded at any point in the future should any questions arise. Voice of Idaho Agriculture Bill Scott
