11/05/07 Lost Boys and Illeagals

One of the Lost Boys, one of the thousands left to survive on his own after fleeing the war torn Sudan works and attends college in our region. An inspiration to the community David recently addressed a Jobs Corp meeting telling the audience the most thrilling moment of his life was being sworn in this September as a US citizen surrounded by loved ones. What struck me in stark contrast to the problem of illegal aliens flooding our country was David's pride and appreciation for his hard earned citizenship, not to mention his remarkable ability to address over 800 people in his new language, English. Why are we continuing to allow illegal immigrants access to something that should be highly treasured, earned and coveted , our nation? Seven states actually reward their crime with drivers licenses issued without proof of citizenship. Thus we have created a sub culture of individuals, "mini Mexico's" within our cities and suburbs, where there is no desire to learn our language, share our customs fly our flag yet we continue to facilitate this travesty by providing services and goods in Spanish.
