10/29/07 King Ranch

A useless piece of land along the Santa Gertrudis Creek in Texas has proven to be well worth the purchase price of two cents per acre, I'm Jeff Keane and I'll return after this. The South Texas King Ranch has been a leader in the cattle, horse and agriculture industry for over one hundred and fifty years. Here's Becky with more on how one mans dream materialized in to a legacy. Steamboat Captain Richard King had a plan that reared its face in 1852 along his one hundred sixty five mile journey to the Corpus Christi fair. While the fair was uneventful, his trip led him through the Texas desert terrain that would later become known as the King Ranch. The original fifteen thousand five hundred acres are still maintained by the King family, included in their now more than eight hundred thousand acres in south Texas. While the ranch is known world wide for producing the famous American Quarter horses including Wimpy P-1. They are also responsible for bearing the first American breed of cattle known as the Santa Gertrudis breed. And, while the ranch still strives to be a leader in the cattle and horses they continue to impact all facits of agriculture by exploring innovative land management programs. With one mans dream, over one hundred fifty years, and six generations of family history this ranch would bring a lot more than a couple cents per acre today. You are defiantly right Becky but I can't imagine the family selling all of there dreams, planning, hard work, and history. I'm Jeff Keane
