The 2007 US dairy exporter of the year is Darigold, Incorporated.
CAREY "Darigold as a company has been in the export market actually since the 1920s in exporting dairy ingredients to China, Southeast Asia and Mexico."
That's Dermot Carey, vice president of ingredient marketing for Darigold. His company was honored by the US Dairy Export Council. Darigold was a founding member of US DEC and believes in the cooperative effort to build US dairy exports worldwide.
CAREY "That's a great resource to have that we as a company couldn't really support on our own globally."
Carey says Darigold believes that dairy export markets require a long term commitment to being a reliable supplier. He says that effort is paying off.
CAREY "So we see tremendous growth opportunities for U.S. milk solids exports to regions globally like China, Southeast Asia, South America, and now even the Middle East."
Dairy exports have grown in recent years to a point where milk solids represent 9.3 percent of US dairy production exports, a trend that Darigold, US DEC and dairy farmers aim to continue.
