10/03/07 RMA grants for Idaho projects

The Risk Management Agency has awarded over 1.3 million dollars in partnership agreements that will benefit agriculture producers. Proposals came from public and private entities in the Northwest but awards were based on merit. Several Idaho programs will be getting RMA funding. Rural Roots Inc will have nearly 90 thousand dollars to develop and print the Legal Liability Handbook for Direct Marketing in Idaho and to conduct seven workshops on how to use the book and related risk management tools to decrease legal and financial risks. 100 thousand will be use for Livestock Risk Protection program training for Idaho and Oregon producers. Another ten thousand will provide risk management and education to Idaho. Idaho Agri-Women get ten thousand to provide seminars that help farm families stay on the farm and pass it on to future generations. PGI, the Potato Growers of Idaho will used 99 hundred dollars to help producers develop a succession plan. Oregon, Washington and Alaska programs were also included in the 1.3 million dollar funding.
