07/10/07 Follow Up on the Voice of the Horse

Follow Up on the Voice of the Horse. I'm Greg Martin with today's Line On Agriculture. A couple of weeks ago, I talked with Dawn Adams with the Tapestry Institute about their Voice of the Horse web seminar. The programs are designed to share experiences about horse and rider. Youth all across the U.S. are encouraged to take part. ADAMS: I think there going to learn a lot and you know one of the things that people said who were attending this online and also at the time we were recording it in Iowa is that they'd never had an opportunity to relate so closely to the presenters we had. Those presenters include Olympian Jane Savoie, Northern Cheyenne trainer Phillip Whiteman, Jr., Equine artist Kim McElroy, Award-winning Chickasaw author Linda Hogan, Innovative instructor Carmon Deyo. ADAMS: The second reason they should come I think is because the equine community needs the voices of youth. We need to know what experiences they have. You can access the web event at www.thevoiceofthehorse.com. Registration is $35 which gives you complete access to all the presentations. According to Adams, scholarships are still available for youth 4-H equine programs. ADAMS: We actually have put a link now on the web site that's the homepage for the information about the conference and so people can click on that link now to submit instead of having to generate and email themselves. All they do is provide us with real basic information and the name of their 4-H group leader and then we can process that. Relationships between horses and riders is something that it's hard to put your finger on and is a large part of what this conference is all about. ADAMS: The ultimate goal of this whole event is to bring together all the stories of all of our experiences, lay them all out of the table so to speak - and look at each others experiences and do some basically peer sharing or peer mentoring about what goes on and then sort of reflect on that and think about what it means in terms of what kinds of issues are we seeing that are common to all of these stories. The Voice of the Horse web conference has been generating a lot of hits and will be available until August 31st but Adams says they are planning to make a hard copy of a lot of the information available in book form. That's today's Line On Agriculture. I'm Greg Martin on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
