07/05/07 July is Idaho Beef Month

It's that time of year when the outdoor grille gets the most use. WILDER "In fact the Fourth of July is the busiest grilling week of the year according to consumer market research." Laura Wilder is the executive director of the Idaho Beef Council. During Idaho Beef Month you'll hear about beef on the radio, see some of 37 outdoor billboards or attend Boise Hawks or Idaho Falls Chukar baseball games on promotion nights. One of the main themes is beef nutrition. WILDER "Great source of nine essential nutrients including zinc, iron, B vitamins and proteins, selenium and phosphorus. It really has a lot to offer." And the Beef Council just elected its new officers for the coming year. Kim Burton Brackett of Castleford is the fourth woman elected and its youngest chairman. WILDER "She has a great background. She's come up through the leadership, through the council and she's also been involved on the national level representing the Council on the Federation of State Beef Councils and national committee work. Laurie Lickley from Jerome is the vice-chairman, Jay Theiler from Boise is the secretary-treasurer. So we've got a great board." Idaho Beef Month is just one part of the beef promotion funded by the one dollar per head checkoff paid by producers. Voice of Idaho Agriculture Bill Scott
