06/22/07 Hastings On Dams & Immigration Replay

Hastings on Dams & Immigration Replay. I'm Greg Martin with today's Northwest Report. Yesterday the House of Representatives voted against an amendment to the Fiscal Year 2008 Energy and Water Appropriations bill that would have prevented federal funds from being used to study or implement any plan to breach, decommission or remove any federal dams that produce hydropower. Congressman Doc Hastings has been a strong supported of the amendment. HASTINGS: For a statement to be made and this was simply an amendment that would have restricted funds used to study any withdrawal of federal projects, I was a little bit disappointed that there wasn't bi-partisan support for that but it didn't work out that way. Hastings along with Congresswoman McMorris Rodgers and Congressman Reichert maintain that enough power could be generated using the dams to power Seattle for a year. The immigration issue is about to heat up again for round two and it's in the Senates ball field. House Republicans have unveiled the Secure Borders FIRST Act. The bill - designed to derail the compromise immigration measure making its way through the Senate and take a harder line on immigration. At the same time, support for the immigration bill took a hit on Wednesday as both Republican Senators from Georgia reversed their course saying they would vote against bringing the measure forward. Now here's today's Washington Grange. (GRANGE) That's today's Northwest Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
