Oregon Terrorist Link & Fat Replacement plus Food Forethought. I'm Greg Martin with today's Northwest Report.
A failed plot to destroy JFK Airport possibly killing thousands of people may have a northwest link bringing international terrorism a whole lot closer to home. Four men have been charged in the plot which was foiled by an informant while the plan was still in the planning stages. Three of the men have been apprehended and the fourth is being sought. Documents indicate that one of the four men worked for McMinnville-based Evergreen Eagle, a division of Evergreen Aviation. EAGLE provides ground handling services at JFK among other airports. Officials there would not confirm or deny that the man was an employee.
We've all heard the claims about successful weight loss products. The USDA has developed a gel like substance made from dietary fiber can replace up to 50 percent of the fat used in a recipe. Phillip Vertan, Communications Director for Z-Trim talks about the all natural fat replacement produce that was developed by USDA research scientists.
VERTAN: We do not reduce the taste in that food so you cannot tell the difference and we are proving that fact in school districts now and the kids are loving it for example in the ranch dressings which I'm told they put on everything from pudding to pizza. They don't like the no-fat ranch or the low-fat ranch's that are out there now but when they try the ranch dressing made with the Z-Trim, they don't even know there's a difference between that and the full fat leading brands.
Now with today's Food Forethought, here's Susan Allen.
The US is kind of like the Jolly Green Giant, happily nodding yes to every global warming initiative, attempting to keep the whole world happy, while in reality the majority of globe views the "green giant" as just a "dumb chump" so desperate to fit in that he'll foot the bill for everything? Globally influential groups like Oxfam are proposing that rich nations, (namely ours) pay for the bulk of global warming. Meaning, the U.S. would pay 44 percent of the annual 50 billion dollar global warming bill while the country with the second highest emissions, Japan, pays a mere 13 percent. (By the way,who gets these payments? China won't even be billed because they fall under the "developing country" status despite the fact that China will be spewing out the majority of the worlds emissions by next year. According to a Reuters's report, China simply shrugged off calls from the EU to take a more active role to reduce global warming saying they felt it was up to industrialized nations. By virtue of being the "Jolly Green Sustainably Organic Giant" maybe we aren't so "industrialized" after all and should give the old EU a shrug as well.
Thanks Susan. That's today's Northwest Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
