There should always be time to talk about and practice farm safety. This Saturday in Nez Perce that's what Shari Kuther and other volunteers will be doing. The Progressive Agriculture Foundation Farm Safety Day is designed for kids ages five to twelve.
KUTHER "Several different topics. PTO's, have a request to talk about some swather safety. Going to pilot actually two new projects for the Progressive Agriculture Foundation. One is stranger-danger and the other is underground utility safety."
And there will be a special prize drawing for kids who bring Mom and Dad along to the Nez Perce school grounds. Registration begins at 845AM and Kuther says their safety program will wrap up by 3 PM.
KUTHER "Depending on the number of kids we'll have about ten stations that they'll rotate through through the course of the day."
Kuther has been organizing these safety days for ten years and she gets donations from local businesses that help with some of the costs. With the farm equipment on hand and kids able to see the danger first hand the safety day is valuable teaching tool.
