05/25/07 oregon renews & wild horse adoption

Oregon Renews & Wild Horse Adoptions. I'm Greg Martin with today's Northwest Report. Oregon has jumped into the renewable energy game in a big way. A bill that would require the states largest electric utilities to pull 25% of their power from renewables by 2025 has one approval in the Oregon House. The bill is right in line with other national program like the 25 x '25 vision. If the thought of adopting a wild horse or burro from the Bureau of Land Managements Adoption Program has crossed your mind, better think hard. The Bureau is bringing the program to several northwest sites in the next month. Alan Sheperd - BLM Wild Horse Specialist says that most adoptions are but he notes there are some requirements the adopters must comply with. SHEPARD: We have some guidelines that we require them to follow according to corral size and heights and things like that. Usually it's a minimum 20x20 corral, six feet tall for these horses that haven't been gentled and anything that has been gentled by a trainer that we employ they're required to be five feet tall. Adoptions are planned for June 1-3 in Monroe, Washington and in Burley, Idaho June 22 & 23. Contact the BLM for more information. Now here's today's Washington Grange. (GRANGE) And this is the start of the Memorial Weekend. I hope that you will take a few minutes and think about the freedom that we have here in the United States, then; thank a vet. That's today's Northwest Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
