05/04/07 Sali votes against horse bill

Bill Sali has only been an Idaho congressman for four months and his critics say he's always on the losing side with his 'no' votes, his votes against most legislation. Sali voted last week against House Resolution 249 which would have restored the ban on the commercial sale and slaughter of wild free-roaming horses and burros. SALI "This legislation is superficial window dressing by extreme animal rights activists bent on getting the federal government to enforce their radical agenda. What's next? Dogs. The Idaho agriculture community does not need this kind of federal regulation." Sali was joined by Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson, Oregon's Greg Walden and 134 other Republicans and Democrats voting against the ban. They lost; the measure passed 277-137. Sali is concerned that excess wild horse populations are causing environmental damage. Resolutions honoring Idaho potatoes, growers and the Idaho Potato Commission have been introduced in the Congress. The resolutions designate May 2007 as "Idaho Potato Month" and recognize the 70th Anniversary of the Potato Commission. Idaho's potato industry employs 39 thousand state residents, contributes approximately $2.7 billion to the Idaho economy. Today's Idaho Ag News Bill Scott
