Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran, and as most of you know, my new favorite wine is usually the wine that is in my glass at the time. But just recently I found myself with a wine I was not in the mood for until I had some food with it.
Let's talk about some of my favorite tried and true food and wine pairings.
I nearly forgot one of my all time favorite food and wine combinations until last week I was poured a glass of Riesling. Now normally I love Riesling but it was a rainy cloudy day and my mood said red wine. Oh well a friend and I took our wine and headed towards the buffet table. The food was lovely and one item caught my attention immediately mini crabcakes. All of a sudden it came back to me. One of the very best food and wine combinations I have ever experienced was Riesling with crabcakes. Another combination that is a crowd pleaser is semi-dry Riesling with spicy green curry dishes at your favorite Thai restaurant. It makes for a very inexpensive take-out evening. Along the lines of the crabcake fresh cracked crab served chilled is also fabulous with Riesling. And if you enjoy oysters on the half shell try some really briny types with sweet Riesling it is a very unusual and very European combination that never fails to please. So the next time you are poured a glass of wine that is good but you aren't in the mood for give it a chance with food you may just end up drinking it all night long.
