04/10/07 Crop Insurance for Nursery growers

USDA's Risk Management Agency reminds Pacific Northwest nursery growers that Tuesday, May 1st is the final date to renew current policies on 2008 Nursery Multi-Peril Crop Insurance in Idaho, Oregon and Washington. RMA's Jo Lynne Seufer says May 1st is also the final date to obtain the Pilot Nursery Grower's Price Endorsement in Oregon and Washington. SEUFER - "One thing that the Pacific Northwest nursery growers have helped us do within the Risk Management Agency is to enhance and improve our policy. And with those improvements we have really expanded our coverage. In 2005 we had about 384 million dollars in coverage liability and in 2006 we had about 455. So the insurance dollar coverage expanded quite a lot. RMA doesn't have the numbers yet for 2007 but Seufer believe they would be similar in their expansion. MPCI Nursery insurance provides protection for wholesale nurseries producing marketing nursery plants grown in standard containers or in the field. Voice of Idaho Agriculture Bill Scott
