04/06/07 Idaho Adopts Biofuel & Caution at Home

Several recent events in Washington State are causing people to be a bit more wary of people coming to the door. Two separate cases are being investigated where 2 robbers dressed as delivery men and carrying a package forced their way into the homes when the door was answered. In both cases the mothers and their children were tied up, the homes robbed and cars were stolen. Police Sgt. Ken Lattin cautions people. LATTIN: If you're receiving a package you should know that you're expecting a package. If it's a surprise then I'd say leave it on the doorstep. Portland Police Sgt. Brian Schmautz says people need to get to know their neighbors. SCHMAUTZ: People are becoming less and less connected to each other and nobody knows their neighbors and so if you participate in neighborhood watch, you know who your neighbors are, you know the people who don't belong in your neighborhood are and then agree with each other that if you see someone going door-to-door that doesn't belong there, there's nothing wrong with calling 911 and saying there's a suspicious person in our neighborhood. Biofuels are getting a boost in Idaho after Governor Butch Otter signed into law legislation that enhances biofuel distribution by providing a 6% investment tax credit for any fuel retailer or wholesaler who invests in infrastructure necessary to provide biofuels to their customers. The new credit is above a current 3% investment tax credit available for most business investments. Now here's today's Washington Grange. (GRANGE) That's today's Northwest Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
