03/28/07 Dependable Wines

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran. On today's program, we will briefly address the idea of the dependable wine. You know the wines that you don't ever have to think twice about serving. Those wines, which are consistently good. This is the scenario and these are the wines we selected. Feature this, a party at your house people you have never met and a low budget. Sounds like a challenge -well maybe - but I took a quick survey of my friends asking what wines do you feel most comfortable with from a consistency point of view. Here are wines which have served me and my friends well for many years. First of all, because we do live in Washington it was difficult but we narrowed it down to Columbia Crest and Hogue Cellars for price to quality ratio. Next, we agreed that no one had ever had a bad bottle of Bogle Petite Sirah or Beringer Reserve Cabernet or Chardonnay from California. And of course in the more international vein we liked Rosemount Yalumba and Lindemans from Australia. Everyone agreed to regularly serving Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand although no one but me could remember any of the names. So suffice to say explore them and find the one you like best. No one could agree on favorite wines from Italy or Argentina and Chile so we will leave them for another survey. I am interested to know what wines you rely on to be consistently good and are the ones you reach for to please a crowd. Email me and give me you favorites at Linda at vine to wine dot net and thank you for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
