The Idaho Potato Commission put money and plenty of effort into a football game broadcast and it paid off.
MUIR "I think we were the only Idaho based organization that bought a national TV spot on the Fiesta Bowl."
The IPC was able to get a reduced rate on the commercial which ran in the Boise State-Oklahoma game.
MUIR "We were very happy with the price such we got on the national ad and the incremental viewership that was picked because it was such an incredible game."
Believing the Broncos could pull off the upset the commission put a lot of effort into the game including advertising in the official Fiesta Bowl program.
MUIR "We also gave a thousand Spuddy Buddies to be shot by the cheerleaders up in the stands during the game. We also have a custom made Spudhead, kind of playing off the Cheeseheads of Wisconsin. We produced a thousand of these and sent them down there and were handed out at pep rallies by the cheerleaders."
The Neilson ratings for the game certainly helped too. Muir says the feedback they received has been very positive and he added.
MUIR "It just reemphasizes if you want to have a great football team you have to eat your Idaho potatoes."
Good thing they didn't tell Oklahoma that prior to the game.
