Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran. Today I want to discuss a wine that I don't think gets enough respect Gewurztraminer.
Yes, that big long word that takes awhile to pronounce correctly, Gewurztraminer. It is a grape and is grown every place from the Alsace of France, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Chile to California and Washington. It is to me voluptuous and intense. It is by far one of the world's most recognizable grapes the fragrance is unmistakable in its aromatic vulgarity. Gewurz means spice and it is all about spice and flash. As I illuded to earlier it grows well in many of the world's wine regions and expresses its' terroir in some very impressive ways, allowing for many different styles of wines. The differing styles from bone dry to dessert style sweet make it a versatile wine with foods. It is perhaps one of the best possible selections to accompany most Asian cuisine and definitely to quaff on a hot summer day. And yes I know it is not as trendy as Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc but it is certainly every bit as sexy. I mean what other wine could you be about to sip and have that moments hesitation thinking to yourself should I drink it or dab it behind my ears?
